A Model-based Approach for Effective Service Delivery

With the emergence of X-as-a-Service (e.g., software as a service, platform as a service, and infrastructure as a service), QoS (quality of service) delivery is becoming increasingly important as users are becoming more and more demanding on good or better services. Traditional service delivery mainly focuses on function or information provisioning, and leaves behind service quality. In this paper, we tackle the QoS delivery problem in a systematic way, from model to system. We first present a decomposed service model that highlights resource provision and consuming, and then propose corresponding service composition principles aiming at service quality provision. At last, we implement a platform service management system prototype to illustrate the application of service composition principles, in which we put emphasis on service composition and dynamic scaling. The prototype system shows that our approach is feasible, reasonable and effective.
